#2 Burned: Destroyed By Desire
Do you have a fire pit in your backyard? They’ve become pretty popular in the last number of years; the kids love it. And yes, fire in a fire pit is a great thing. It’s good for cooking and for warmth. Yet, when you buy a new fire pit, you are given warnings, “Don’t use it indoors.” That seems obvious enough. Another is, “Don’t use it on a wood surface”, or “Don’t use it in windy conditions.” Why so many warnings? Because fire inside the fire pit is very helpful. It’s a good thing. It serves a great purpose. But fire outside the fire pit can be very dangerous. It can become very destructive.
This is how the Bible talks to us about sex. Today, this is often a difficult topic to address, but the bible takes off the gloves. Sex is not necessarily sinful, if it’s used and practiced in the context that God created for it. Sex between a husband and wife in a married relationship is a beautiful thing. It’s great when we keep the fire within the fire pit, but outside that context, (the) fire of sexual sin can become very destructive.
Beginning this week, we will explore what the bible says about this gift of sex. God warns us about where we should not use it and how it should not be practiced, because it’s a powerful thing. Join us as we learn what God intended with this beautiful gift
