Praise as Power: Day #24
There are times in life when gratitude washes over us like water when we dive into a pool. Giving praise to God in those times seems effortless, and even empowering. It feels like starting up a new lawn mower with fresh fuel and an electric starter.
Then there are days when praise and thankfulness are as scarce as water in Death Valley, CA. Singing praise is like pulling the chain on an old and busted lawn mower from the 80’s. You try and try and try and it just isn’t in you. Paul’s words can seem insensitive to the struggles of parents who’ve lost children; friends who have been betrayed and mocked by a close confidant.
But no matter the circumstance there is a power in praise to change us for praise reminds us of all that God has done in our lives. It can change how we see ourselves, how we see the world around us, and most importantly, to change how we see God. Spend some time writing below what God has done and what prayers he has answered in your lives.
Father in heaven, every good and perfect gift comes from you. We surely don’t see all of the good you have done for us. Indeed, our eyes couldn’t bear the glory that would be reviled if you showed us all you had planned for us. Remind us again of the gift we have in Jesus Christ; to know you hear us and are with us. [spend time saying these things out loud] Thank you for all these things you have given me. In Christ’s name, Amen.
