One Faith: Day #6

Sep 15, 2023    Devotion Leader

In the above verses, we read a beautiful description of what the Church is supposed to look like. Unfortunately, we struggle to live up to the call we have received. Too often we hear of God’s people behaving the very opposite of humility, gentleness, patience, and love. Many people look at the Church today and see anything but unity. And yet, these very things are what are supposed to set us apart as being different from the world and belonging to Christ. There are seven “one” statements that speak to this unity. In the middle, we read “one faith.” It is our faith in Jesus that ultimately unites us. All people, all places, all languages. There is a motto you may have heard in Restoration Movement Churches: “In matters of faith, unity; in matters of opinion, liberty; in all things, love.” How does this look if it’s lived out?  How can you live this out today?

Father in heaven, help us to be a people of humility, gentleness, patience, and love. Let it be these qualities that set us apart as belonging to you. May we find unity in our faith in you. May it supersede the things that try to tear us apart. Strengthen our faith. In Christ’s name we pray, Amen.
